Fuck The Metaverse

I know there's some out there who love the Metaverse and the planet too. But Mother Earth needs you more. So please, keep reading.

Fuck the Metaverse isn't exactly what I mean. What I'm sayin is, the Metaverse can wait.  All hands on deck for the world we're in. I believe art, NFTs, can be used to make a big difference in saving Mother Earth.

Look at these pictures.

The first (left to right) is from my friend Joel Gratz's site, OpenSnow.com. It's the best weather site in the country. Joel now tracks the smoke. Because here in CO we now have Winter, Spring, Fires. We used to have Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. As you can see, the Western half of the United States is on fire.

The 2nd is from 2 days ago. The smoke was so bad where we live our son who has asthma had a little trouble with his breathing while we were out for a walk.

The 3rd one is from last summer. The fires were so bad our son couldn't go outside for a couple of days.

We don't live in the city. We live in the mountains of CO - clean air, clear mountain streams, starlit skies. Our air isn't clean now. Right now it's 1am. I can't see the stars. Because of the smoke. If it's like this for us, what about the millions who live in Los Angeles, on the West Coast, Nevada, Canada, or the Northwest? What about them? What about their children?

Now look at these pictures from our driveway. That's our hillside. Wildflowers used to grow there. Because it rained. Now they don't, because it doesn't rain.

In the 1st 3 pictures, notice how many wildflowers we used to have. BTW, I didn't do anything to make them grow. They grew on their own. Because we had rain.

Now look at the lower 4 pictures taken a week ago. No wildflowers. Notice how dry the ground is - because it doesn't rain like it used to. In fact we haven't had Monsoon rains in 2 years. The wildflowers haven't been here for a couple years. Neither have the bees. Because bees go where the flowers are. When the flowers are gone so are the bees. Bees are really important.

Now watch this video taken 2 weeks ago from the Sylvan Lake fire, a few minutes from our house. We now live one lightening strike from our home burning to the ground. Where I was standing felt like being in a furnace room.

I can hear the birds coughing from the smoke. The birds don't sing like they used to. The few that are left mainly moan.

Now check out this link from yesterday's Los Angeles Times. The water level at Lake Mead is so low it could soon fail to produce electricity. Power that millions of homes rely on.

‘Unrecognizable.’ Lake Mead, a lifeline for water in Los Angeles and the West, tips toward crisis
Lake Mead is at the lowest water levels in its 85-year history. Federal officials who manage the lake expect to soon declare a water shortage.

Or this one. The Pacific Northwest is on fire. That's not supposed to happen.

Wildfires Spread Across 300,000+ Acres in Six Western States as Heat Wave Rages On
The biggest single blaze is the Bootleg Fire, which has ripped through more than 140,000 acres in Oregon.

Or this one. 11 billion tons of Greenland ice melted in one day.

One more. The Mormons and Gates are already making plans. Look what they're buying - farm land with water rights and hotels. They'll never admit what they're up to. But it's right there in front of god and everyone to see, just connect the dots.

How the Mormon Church Beat Bill Gates in a Battle Over Farmland
Photo Illustration by The Daily Beast/Photo by Chesnot/GettyOn Friday, a showdown between two of the largest agricultural landowners in the United States—the Church of Latter-Day Saints and Bill Gates’ wealth management firm—came to a head when the Mormons beat out the mogul on a bid for 12,000 acre…

The chaos is here, it just hasn't come to your door step yet. What we're experiencing is just the prelude, the first few warning signs.

We did this. We're causing this. We were told what we're doing, we didn't listen.
Joni Mitchell wrote about it in '71 - Big Yellow Taxi
Roger Waters wrote albums about it - Animals in '77, The Wall in '82
The Grateful Dead wrote about it in '87 - Throwing Stones

Don Henley sang about in The Last Resort
"We satisfy our endless needs
And justify our bloody deeds
In the name of destiny
And in the name of God"

We're killing Mother Earth. Inversely, we can stop.

Here we go.
Art is evocative, it's powerful.

I'm asking, no, I'm begging NFT artists everywhere to focus their work on creating NFTs, collectible projects, all centered on Mother Earth. Because nothing else matters.

People have the power. Use your art and your power. Start now. Create works that make people happy, mad, sad, makes daily headlines. Because nothing else matters.

Do it for the children. For their children, the next 7 generations of children.

The Metaverse can wait. It's not goin anywhere. The world we're in is all that matters.

Mother Earth is calling you. Please pick up.
